Sixty-six teams gathered at the Münster Stadthafen on Saturday, September 26, for the second Rudern gegen Krebs
charity regatta. Mayor Tilman Fuchs welcomed participants and visitors as patron of the event at 12 noon, though competitions had already been underway since the morning.
The event featured 250-meter races in Gig double quads, each boat carrying four active rowers and a coxswain. Participants included sponsor employees, patients, relatives, clinic teams, and other sports enthusiasts, with up to four training sessions provided beforehand. Preliminary heats were organized by random draw, with results subsequently dividing teams into three performance classes: Könner
(experts), Versierten
(experienced), and Einsteigern
(beginners). Final victories went to Spine Tigers
in the expert category, Kardiologie Franziskus
among the experienced teams, and ZaR – Zusammen am Ruder #3
in the beginner class. Five patient teams also took part and received joint recognition during the final award ceremony.
Charity Purpose and Beneficiaries
Proceeds from the regatta are designated to finance sports and exercise programs for cancer patients at the St.-Franziskus-Hospital. The initiative is part of a nationwide series organized by the Stiftung Leben mit Krebs alongside rowing clubs and oncological facilities. While the premiere in September 2025 featured 68 teams and ultimately raised 51,939 euros—including 38,000 euros for the hospital’s Sport tut gut
project—organizers did not publish a final donation sum for the second edition by Sunday.
Organization and Supporting Program
The regatta was jointly organized by the Stiftung Leben mit Krebs, the St.-Franziskus-Hospital, and the Ruderverein Münster von 1882. Alongside the on-water races, the land program featured interactive activities for children and visitors, as well as an auction of signed jerseys from SC Preußen Münster. Münster served as the penultimate location on the national 2026 regatta calendar, preceding a final event in Berlin on October 3.
