Seoul, South Korea – Veteran musical actor Nam Kyung-joo, 63, is under investigation by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office following allegations of sexual assault. The case was forwarded by the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul last month, according to reports from MBN and Dispatch on March 11, 2026.

Nam Kyung-joo is accused of sexually assaulting a woman, identified as ‘A,’ in Seoul last year. Following the alleged incident, the woman reported the matter directly to the police after feeling threatened Chosun. Police determined there was sufficient evidence to substantiate the charges and referred the case to the prosecution.

Nam Kyung-joo acknowledged the investigation is underway, stating to Dispatch, “It is true that the investigation is currently underway,” but declined to provide further details regarding the specific allegations Star News Korea. Nam Kyung-joo began his acting career in 1982 with “Woyzeck” and transitioned to musical theater in 1994 with “Porgy and Bess.” He has since grow a prominent figure in the Korean musical theater scene, appearing in numerous productions including “Guys and Dolls,” “Les Misérables,” “Grease,” “42nd Street,” “Rent,” “The King and I,” “Chicago,” “Mamma Mia!,” “The Three Musketeers,” and “Wicked” MK. He is often referred to as the ‘Musical Godfather’ and is considered a first-generation leader in Korean musicals, alongside Choi Jeong-won and Park Kal-lin MK.
Previous Controversies
This is not the first time Nam Kyung-joo has faced legal issues. In 2002 and 2003, his driver’s license was revoked for drunk driving, and in 2004, he was booked without detention for driving without a license MK.
The case is currently being investigated by the Women and Children Crimes Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office.
