Namyangju City Launches Immersive Jeong Yak-yong Historic Site Programs for 2026
Namyangju City, South Korea, will begin offering the ‘2026 Jeong Yak-yong Historic Site Education and Experience Program’ in March, designed to engage visitors with the life and philosophy of the Joseon Dynasty scholar Jeong Yak-yong. The programs emphasize experiential learning and play within the historic site itself, moving away from traditional lecture-based formats.
Experiential Programs for All Ages
The programs are designed to make Jeong Yak-yong’s Silhak (Practical Learning) and humanistic values accessible to both children and families. Two primary programs will be offered:
Yeoyudang Class
This one-day class, with a total of 90 participants, focuses on Jeong Yak-yong’s hobbies and artistic interests. Six courses are available, including rattan craft, watercolor drawing, farm song performance, traditional archery, traditional tea etiquette, and calligraphy.
Dasan Jeong Yak-yong’s Great Journey
This program utilizes a board game based on Namyangju’s cultural heritage and Jeong Yak-yong’s journey after exile (Haebae-gil). Designed for 8 families, it aims to provide an immersive history learning experience through gameplay.
City’s Commitment to Cultural Enrichment
A city official stated that Namyangju is actively transforming the Jeong Yak-yong Historic Site into a dynamic cultural space that combines learning and enjoyment, extending beyond a simple viewing location. The city plans to expand these educational programs to further integrate Jeong Yak-yong’s values into the daily lives of its citizens.
