Vercingetorix Dominates Nationals Day 1 as Red Trix Tops Sale
Lammerskraal Stud’s Vercingetorix colt Red Trix emerged as the headline act on day one of the Bloodstock South Africa National Yearling Sale, fetching R5.25 million to top the proceedings. The sale, held on 17 April 2026, saw Vercingetorix assert his dominance as the leading sire by aggregate, with his yearlings grossing an impressive R46.2 million from 29 lots sold.
Red Trix Leads Vercingetorix Charge
Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Red Trix (Vercingetorix – Redberry Lane) was knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R5.25 million, securing his position as the top lot of the sale. The colt is out of G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes winner Redberry Lane, who is a full-sister to dual Guineas winner Solo Traveller. His second dam is a former Equus Champion broodmare of the Year.
Farm Manager Lindi Garlicki expressed her delight, stating: “Really thrilled with all our sales and absolutely delighted with the top lot! Bought by Form bloodstock.”
Vercingetorix Sires Fill Top Three Spots
Vercingetorix was responsible for the three top lots sold at the National Yearling Sale. Following Red Trix, Vercingetorix filly Sent Flying (Lot 195), bred by Varsfontein Stud and out of G1 Premiers Champion Stakes winner Sentbydestiny, realised R4.75 million when purchased by Adam Marcus Racing, making her the top-priced filly of the sale.
The third top lot was Vercingetorix colt Brave Marvel (Vercingetorix – Running Brave), bred by Soetendal Estate (agent Owloon Horses), which sold to Jonathan Snaith for R2.4 million.
Impressive Averages Underscore Sire’s Influence
Vercingetorix’s 29 yearlings averaged R1,593,103, a remarkable figure that underscores his continued influence in the South African bloodstock market. Notably, 16 of his yearlings sold for R1 million or more, further highlighting the demand for his progeny.

The opening session of the sale delivered a strong and commercially balanced result, with the R1 million-plus section providing both headline strength and meaningful depth. Day one averaged an astonishing R632,590, positioning it to potentially set a new record if sustained into day two.
Market Anchored by Vercingetorix
Throughout the catalogue, the market was firmly anchored by Vercingetorix, while other notable sires such as Gimmethegreenlight and Rafeef maintained consistent pressure across multiple price bands, shaping both the upper and middle tiers of trade.
Vercingetorix, the champion son of multiple champion sire Silvano and resident sire at Maine Chance Farms, had also provided the top lots sold at both this year’s Cape Yearling Sale and Premier Yearling Sale, cementing his status as South Africa’s reigning champion sire.
