Netflix’s hit reality dating experiment Love Is Blind is expanding north of the border with a dedicated Canadian edition, according to an announcement made by Netflix on Tuesday, August 11. Production company Insight Productions will helm the homegrown version of the global franchise, as reported by Complex.
Canadian singles can now formally submit applications to join the pods, with casting currently underway. According to eligibility rules posted by Netflix, applicants must be at least 19 years old at the time of submission and hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency as of January 1, 2027.
Casting and Eligibility for Love Is Blind Canada
The application process for Love Is Blind: Canada goes far beyond basic biographical data. According to casting details highlighted by Complex, prospective contestants must complete registration forms that probe deeply into their dating histories, personal lifestyles, and relationship goals. Producers ask candidates to articulate what has failed in conventional dating environments and why they are prepared to accept an engagement before meeting a partner face-to-face.
While Netflix confirmed that Insight Productions is producing the series, the platform has not yet disclosed where the inaugural season will be filmed, who will host, or when episodes will premiere. Historically, the franchise builds casts from single populations concentrated within specific metropolitan regions to facilitate post-filming continuity.
Expansion of the Global Dating Franchise
Since its initial U.S. premiere in February 2020, Love Is Blind has grown into one of Netflix’s most prominent unscripted properties. The format isolates participants in individual pods where they communicate exclusively through audio walls. Couples who choose to marry undergo a brief engagement period before confronting real-world integration, meeting families, and ultimately making altar decisions.
The format has previously spawned international adaptations across Brazil, Japan, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Mexico. The Canadian edition joins an increasingly crowded domestic unscripted market. Bell Media recently announced the revival of Big Brother Canada on CTV and Crave for spring 2027 following its cancellation by Global in 2024, while Paramount+ launched the regional spin-off Canada Shore earlier this year after production in Kelowna, British Columbia, according to Complex.
