Nevada County to Hold Randomized Alphabet Drawing for Primary Election Ballot Order

Nevada County election officials will conduct a randomized alphabet drawing to determine the order of candidate names on the ballot for the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election. The drawing is scheduled for 10 a.m. On March 12 at the Nevada County Elections Office, located at 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City.

Ensuring Fairness in Ballot Design

The randomized drawing will specifically determine the order of candidates for State Senate and Assembly races on the Nevada County ballot. California Elections Code mandates this process to ensure fairness in ballot design. By randomly assigning the order, the code prevents any candidate from consistently benefiting from a standard alphabetical listing.

Statewide Drawing Too Scheduled

The California Secretary of State’s Office will conduct a separate randomized alphabet drawing for all other candidate names at 11 a.m. On March 12.
