Les Filons du Cégep de Thetford have launched a new competitive baseball team featuring 22 players aged between adolescence and early adulthood who are playing a demanding 31-game schedule running from September to April. The newly formed squad travels across regions and international borders to face various levels of competition, playing 16 games in the United States, eight in Ontario, and seven in Quebec.
Early Season Performance and Roster Geographic Makeup
The team opened its inaugural campaign with a strong start, securing four wins through their first seven games. The roster draws talent primarily from the greater Quebec City area, alongside players from Gatineau, Rivière-du-Loup, Victoriaville, and Shawinigan. Head coach René-Dave Pelchat notes that the group brings a strong work ethic to daily practices while blending experienced players with developing prospects.
« Nous avons un très beau groupe de joueurs qui travaille fort chaque jour et qui adhère pleinement à notre projet. Même si certains joueurs possèdent déjà une expérience importante, plusieurs autres progressent rapidement. Notre objectif est de faire progresser tout le groupe et de permettre à chacun de se développer », states head coach René-Dave Pelchat regarding the team’s developmental philosophy.
Home Debut at Stade Desjardins
Local baseball fans caught their first glimpse of the new Cégep de Thetford squad during their home debut last weekend at Stade Desjardins. The home side dropped that matchup 15-7 against the Baseball Academy of Canada team. Despite the opening home loss, the program continues its rigorous schedule spanning the fall, winter, and spring months to prepare players for higher levels of competition.
