Stuttgart Expands Cycling Infrastructure with new Lanes and Streets
The city of Stuttgart is actively enhancing its cycling infrastructure to promote sustainable transportation and improve connectivity for cyclists. On November 18th, the Committee for Urban Advancement and Technology approved the implementation of a new bicycle lane on Salzburger Strasse in the Feuerbach district, alongside the designation of Burtenbachstraße in Stammheim as a bicycle street.
This development will integrate with the existing cycle route on Burgenlandstrasse and contribute to the larger network of Main Cycle Route 6 and a planned cycle highway. The Salzburger Strasse route is strategically positioned to connect Feuerbach, the city center, and Weilimdorf, aligning with both Stuttgart’s established cycling network standards and the future requirements of the cycle highway project. https://www.stuttgart.de/en/
the implementation on Salzburger Strasse will primarily involve road markings and signage. While motorized traffic will remain accessible to residents, dedicated parking spaces will not be provided within the bicycle lane. Improvements to pedestrian and cyclist safety are also planned at the intersection of Wiener Straße/Linzer Straße, where traffic light timings will be adjusted to better accommodate non-motorized traffic.
These additions reflect Stuttgart’s ongoing commitment to expanding its cycling network and encouraging environmentally friendly modes of transportation within the city.
