Saskatchewan Opens New French-Language School in Regina

The Government of Saskatchewan, in partnership with the Conseil des écoles fransaskoises (CÉF), has officially opened école du Parc, a new kindergarten to Grade 6 French-language school in north Regina. The $26.9 million facility underscores the province’s commitment to providing high-quality education for Francophone students.

Commitment to Francophone Education

“This new school demonstrates our commitment to supporting French-language education in Saskatchewan,” said Education Minister Everett Hindley. “It demonstrates that the province is dedicated to providing French-speaking students with access to a safe and welcoming environment that allows them to learn and thrive in French.”

Facility Details

The modern school is designed to accommodate 325 students and features a 51-space child care centre. It also includes a shared space for the Francophone community. The Government of Saskatchewan contributed $22.2 million to the project, while the Government of Canada provided $4.7 million to fund the community space.

Shared Vision and Community Impact

“Today marks an important milestone for education in our province,” said SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister Sean Wilson. “The opening of this new CÉF elementary school reflects our shared commitment to creating welcoming and modern learning spaces for students. We are proud to support a project that offers Fransaskois students a new establishment that will assist them learn and grow for years to come.”

Geneviève Binette, President of the CÉF, highlighted the school’s significance for the Fransaskois community. “École du Parc is the first of our local schools, established in the very heart of a neighborhood where many Fransaskois families live. It realizes our vision of an accessible school, anchored in its environment and deeply connected to its community. It embodies the vitality, pride and success of the Fransaskois community, as the school is not only a place of learning: it is the beating heart of the community and an essential pillar of its sustainability.”

Federal Support for Francophone Education

Federal Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister Responsible for Official Languages, Marc Miller, emphasized the importance of quality educational environments for Francophone minority communities. “A quality educational environment is essential to the development of Francophone minority communities across the country,” he stated. “We are proud to support the construction of these new community infrastructures at the Regina school, which will better meet the needs of young Fransaskois and offer them an environment where they can grow, learn and fully flourish in French.”

Addressing Growing Enrollment and Future Plans

École du Parc replaces a temporary facility that opened in 2018 to address increasing enrollment. Construction began in June 2023 and was completed in December 2024. The Saskatchewan government is currently developing plans for additional Francophone schools in Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
