Construction has officially begun on a new 6.2 million euro roller sports center in Stegersbach, Austria, designed to provide year-round training and competition facilities for national teams and youth athletes.

Construction begins in Stegersbach

State Secretary for Sport Michaela Schmidt joined local officials, including Sport Landeshauptmann Heinrich Dorner and Jürgen Dolesch, to break ground on the Bundesleistungszentrum Rollsport. The net construction cost totals approximately 6.2 million euros. Funding for the project comes from a joint partnership between the federal government, the Province of Burgenland, and the Municipality of Stegersbach. Project planners expect construction to finish in the second quarter of 2028.

Two Halls for Year-Round Training

The facility features two independent sports halls, each measuring 50 by 25 meters. These spaces will allow for uninterrupted training and competition across twelve months, regardless of weather conditions. Alongside the primary sport surfaces, the center includes athletic and specialized training areas for technique, shooting, and skills development. Additional rooms support athlete recovery, physiotherapy, and pre-competition preparation.

New center serves national teams and international clubs

Austrian national teams, young prospects, and clubs from both domestic and international leagues will use the new center. Andreas Freiberger, president of the Austrian Roller Sports Federation (ÖRSV), noted that the facility will serve as a beacon for the sport far beyond national borders. The development builds on a nearly 30-year local history in inline skater hockey, anchored by the Tigers Stegersbach club founded in 1997 and the Tigers Cage facility opened in 2006.

Infrastructure and Regional Growth

Robert Zsifkovits, president of ASVÖ Burgenland, welcomed the investment as a step toward addressing structural shortcomings in regional sports infrastructure. Beyond athletics, the facility aims to draw national and international tournaments to the tourism-focused golf and thermal region. ASVÖ Burgenland also plans to install two electric vehicle charging stations at the site as part of its e-Power initiative.
