Milagro Theatre Welcomes New Interim Artistic Director
In Portland, Oregon, Milagro has appointed Maya Malan-Gonzalez as its new interim artistic director, effective January 1, 2026. Malan-Gonzalez, a performer, playwright, and teatrista whose work centers Latine culture and women’s voices, steps into the role during a nationwide search for a permanent artistic director. She is a lifelong member of Milagro, currently serving as board president, and is the daughter of co-founders Dañel Malán-González and José Eduardo González y Salazar. Malan-Gonzalez has appeared in 20 productions at the theatre and her plays – Blast Off, Huelga, A Xmas Cuento Remix, and Worry Dolls – have been commissioned and produced by Milagro. She also has credits in screen and voiceover work, including Apple TV’s Lessons in Chemistry and Audible’s Women of Fire. Dañel Malán-González is currently serving as executive artistic director as José Eduardo González y Salazar transitions into the role of chief financial officer.
Everyman Theatre Announces Brandon Weinbrenner as Artistic Director
Baltimore’s Everyman Theatre has named Brandon Weinbrenner as its next artistic director. Weinbrenner, currently the associate artistic director at the Alley Theatre in Houston, will assume his new role in July, succeeding founding artistic director Vincent M. Lancisi, who is retiring after 35 years. At the Alley, Weinbrenner directed plays that achieved box office success and critical acclaim. He was also a founder of the Alley’s All New Festival and a directing fellow at Berkeley Rep’s the Ground Floor. Weinbrenner intends to continue Everyman’s commitment to producing theatre with local actors and artisans, partnering with managing director Marissa LaRose, who has been with the theatre since April 2020.
HERE Arts Center Sees Leadership Transition
In New York City, HERE Arts Center is undergoing a leadership shift as co-director Lauren Miller departs at the end of January to focus on political organizing. Miller joined a four-person leadership cohort in 2024. Jesse Cameron Alick, Annalisa Dias, and Lanxing Fu will continue to serve as co-directors.
Laguna Playhouse Appoints New Managing Director
Laguna Playhouse in Laguna Beach, California, has announced Adele Adkins as its new managing director. Adkins brings over 25 years of experience in nonprofit theatre management and programming, most recently serving as managing director of Bucks County Playhouse in Pennsylvania. She has a background in booking performances across various venues and has led the Clark State Performing Arts Center in Ohio and the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine. Adkins is a Juilliard-trained cellist.
