New Whole Foods Market Set to Open in Los Gatos This April
Los Gatos residents will soon have a larger Whole Foods Market to shop at, with a new location slated to open in April on Los Gatos Boulevard at the intersection of Los Gatos Almaden Road. The new 40,039-square-foot supermarket will more than double the size of the current store, which will be closing upon the opening of the new location.
A Long-Awaited Expansion
The site, previously occupied by a Chevrolet dealership that closed in 2008, was purchased by Sand Hill Property Company in 2021 for $15.1 million and received development approval from the city in 2023. The new market will feature a spacious hot-food bar, indoor seating, and a mural of local birds.
Artistic Touches and Community Excitement
Los Altos artist Morgan Bricca was commissioned to create a four-panel mural on the south side of the building, depicting local birds with a seasonal theme: a House Finch for spring, an American Goldfinch for summer, a Blue Jay for fall, and a Spotted Towhee for winter. “I try to bring nature into public spaces,” Bricca told San José Spotlight.
Los Gatos Mayor Rob Moore, a resident near the new store, expressed the community’s enthusiasm. “People in my neighborhood are really excited about it,” Moore told San José Spotlight.
Another Whole Foods in the Works
Sand Hill Property Company similarly broke ground last summer on another Whole Foods Market location five miles away at the El Paseo de Saratoga shopping center in West San Jose, with an expected opening in 2028.
A Whole Foods representative declined to comment on a specific opening date.
