National squash player Ng Eain Yow secured an automatic spot for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics after winning the men’s singles title at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games. Following the victory, Eain Yow stated his ambition to become world number one after capturing a double by also helping Malaysia secure a gold medal in the men’s team event.

The 28-year-old athlete, currently ranked 18th in the world, became the first Malaysian athlete to secure an automatic spot for LA28 after defeating India’s Abhay Singh 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 in the men’s singles final to defend his title. S. Sivasangari subsequently confirmed the country’s second automatic qualification in the women’s singles by defeating India’s Anahat Singh.

Chasing the World Number One Ranking

Eain Yow stated that his immediate focus is to continue improving his world ranking following a return to a more stable routine at his training base in Bristol, England. He noted that he is able to train consistently and focus entirely on squash for the coming months and into next year. Prior to his singles triumph, Eain Yow advanced past Hong Kong’s Lau Tsz Kwan in the quarter-finals and went on to claim the men’s team event gold with Malaysia.

Ambitions for World and Olympic Titles

Reflecting on his future in the sport, the defending champion expressed a broad set of ambitions beyond his recent Asian Games success. I want to be world number one, I want to be world champion, and I want an Olympic gold medal. I want it all in this sport, so I will keep working hard, Eain Yow said. Squash is set to make its debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, where singles winners at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games earn automatic qualification.
