Antisemitic Vandalism and Political Intrigue Rock Nice: Investigation Widens

Nice, France – An investigation into an alleged antisemitic act targeting Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi has expanded, with four individuals now indicted on charges including aggravated violence, inciting hatred, and criminal association. The incident, involving a pig’s head hung on the mayor’s home and an antisemitic poster, has sparked outrage and raised questions about potential political motivations.

Initial Incident and Arrests

On February 27th, a pig’s head was discovered hanging at the home of Christian Estrosi, accompanied by a poster featuring the mayor with a Star of David and an insulting message. Police launched an investigation, initially arresting two Tunisian nationals in their thirties. These individuals were subsequently indicted and placed in pre-trial detention, with one identified as a cyberactivist involved in the Tunisian Jasmine Revolution.

Expanding Investigation: Former Police Officer and LA-Based Entrepreneur Implicated

The investigation broadened to include a 79-year-old retired police officer from the Territorial Surveillance Directorate (DST) and a 40-year-old French entrepreneur based in Los Angeles, identified as Sevan B. The former officer had reportedly met with Estrosi’s campaign team regarding potential social media involvement. Sevan B., a close friend of the Estrosi family, co-founded a company with Estrosi’s wife and was actively promoting the mayor’s campaign online.

Connections and Potential Conflicts of Interest

Sevan B. And the 38-year-old cyberactivist appear to have been acquainted since 2017. While Sevan B. Denies any involvement in the antisemitic act, investigators are examining messages exchanged between the two around the time of the incident. Notably, Sevan B. Is also connected to a legal case involving artist Richard Orlinski, where allegations of corruption and favoritism have surfaced, with investigations into alleged gifts offered to Estrosi and his wife.

Prosecutor’s Statement and Ongoing Investigation

Nice prosecutor Damien Martinelli stated that the investigation is currently focused on the individuals indicted and identified, with no evidence suggesting the involvement of others. Estrosi and his wife will be questioned as witnesses in the near future. The prosecutor’s office is exploring the possibility of a coordinated effort to manipulate and infiltrate the electoral process, but has ruled out foreign interference at this stage. Estrosi has denounced the incident as a “despicable plot” and awaits the outcome of the investigation.
