Nicholas Brendon, best known for his role as Xander Harris in the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at the age of 54. His family announced that he passed away on Friday “in his sleep of natural causes.”

A Beloved Character on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’

Brendon portrayed Xander, Buffy’s friend and a key source of comic relief, throughout the show’s seven-season run. Alyson Hannigan, who played Willow Rosenberg, shared her grief, writing, “My Sweet Nicky, thank you for years of laughter, love, and Dodgers. I will think of you every time I see a rocking chair. I love you. RIP.” The Guardian reported on Hannigan’s tribute.

Beyond Buffy

While widely recognized for his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Brendon had a diverse career in television and film. He appeared in series such as Criminal Minds, Private Practice, and Kitchen Confidential. His film credits include Demon Island and Psycho Beach Party.

Recent Health Challenges

In 2023, Brendon was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and subsequently experienced a heart attack. He was also managing cauda equina, a condition involving compression of nerve roots in the lower spine. Despite these health challenges, his family stated he was optimistic and receiving treatment at the time of his death. “While it is no secret that Nicholas had struggled in the past, he was taking medication and receiving treatment for his diagnosis and was optimistic about the future at the time of his death,” his family said in a statement.

A Passion for Art

In recent years, Brendon had developed a passion for painting and art, enthusiastically sharing his work with family, friends, and fans. His family noted that his art was a “pure reflection of who he was.”

Nicholas Brendon was born in Los Angeles in 1971. He is remembered for his contributions to television and film, and for bringing laughter to audiences worldwide.
