Nico Echavarria to Fulfill Promise to Wife with Recent Bernedoodle After Cognizant Classic Win

Nico Echavarria secured his third PGA Tour victory at the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches on March 1, 2026, and will now fulfill a promise to his wife, Claudia, by adding a Bernedoodle to their family.

A Promise Kept

Shortly after finishing 17-under to win the tournament by two strokes over Taylor Moore and Shane Lowry, Echavarria revealed his plans to reporters. “The promise is we’re getting a dog because a dog is expensive, so we need a third win for a dog, that’s how it works,” he said according to Yahoo Sports. The couple has already chosen their desired breed: a Bernedoodle, inspired by a similar purchase made by golfer Min Woo Lee.

Victory at the Cognizant Classic

Echavarria’s win at the Cognizant Classic marks his third career PGA Tour victory, following wins at the 2023 Puerto Rico Open and the 2024 Zozo Championship. He played a bogey-free final two rounds, securing a 5-under 66 on Sunday despite challenges off the tee. He finished with a 2-under 69 for a 15-under total, netting $1.728 million and earning a second invitation to the Masters Tournament.

Lowry’s Disappointment

While Echavarria celebrated his victory and a future with a new pet, Shane Lowry expressed disappointment, particularly for his four-year-old daughter, Ivy, who was present to witness the final round. “The hardest thing about today is I’ve never won in front of my four-year-old, and she was there waiting for me. I only wanted it for her today,” Yahoo Sports reported Lowry said after the tournament.

Recent Home Purchase

The addition of a Bernedoodle will add another member to the Echavarria household, which recently expanded with the purchase of a new home in Florida as noted on Instagram. The couple married in November.
