The news was filmed by Sony as a variation on the superhero story about Spider-Man, but without Peter Parker. It takes place unconventionally in New York in the 1930s, i.e. during the great economic crisis.
The first trailer for the series, which viewers will see on May 27, was released this Thursday.
Nicolas Cage plays private investigator Ben Reilly, who gave up his web-spinning superhero persona years ago. Now he returns to an alter ego simply called The Spider in the wake of a personal tragedy.
“I approached the character as 70 percent Humphrey Bogart and 30 percent Bugs Bunny,” Cage said, referring to the famous early 20th century actor and Looney Tunes cartoon character.
According to Esquire magazine, the winner of the Oscar for the film Leaving Las Vegas, Cage, was also inspired by old Hollywood stars such as Edward G. Robinson or James Cagney.

The new series also stars Lamorne Morris as Reilly’s friend and freelance journalist or Li Jun Li. The actress known from the movie Sinners portrayed a femme fatale who sings in a night club.
In an unusual way, viewers will be able to choose whether they want to watch Spider-Noir in “authentic black and white” or “full color”.
The creators also published the trailer in two versions. “I suggested from the beginning that people should be able to choose. When Amazon was thinking about doing the series in black and white, they were nervous about it. So I told them: It doesn’t have to be just black and white, let people choose,” he described v interview Nicolas Cage. According to him, the color version is beautiful. “But I was drawn to the project because of the black and white,” he admits.
Sony previously presented an animated version of the character from Spider-Noir. The same hero was voiced by Nicolas Cage in the 2018 Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Parallel Worlds, where there were several versions of Spider-Man.

However, the current Spider-Noir is the first animated series with this protagonist and also the first from the Marvel studio to appear regularly on the Amazon Prime Video platform. This was made possible by an agreement with the operators. However, Sony has recently closed several of these.
Last month, the company struck a deal with rival Netflix, where films such as the upcoming animated Spider-Man: Beyond Parallel Worlds will be re-released after they stop playing in theaters. Films shot under the banner of Sony Pictures will always be exclusive on Netflix for a year and a half after release, after which they will head to another paid video library, Disney+, where they have ended up until now.
