Nigeria’s AFCON Hopes Hit by Injuries to dessers and Alebiosu
Nigeria’s chances of winning a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title have taken a hit with injuries to Cyriel Dessers and Ryan Alebiosu.
Alebiosu, making his Super Eagles debut against Uganda, played well, starting in place of Radiant Osayi-Samuel and playing the entire 90 minutes in Nigeria’s 3-1 win over the cranes. However, he suffered a leg cut during the match and was taken to the hospital. It’s now uncertain if he’ll be able to play in the rest of the tournament as Eric Chelle’s team prepares to face Mozambique in the Round of 16.
Dessers, who plays for Panathinaikos,is also a concern, dealing with a thigh injury. He’s scheduled for a scan to see how serious it is and if he can continue playing in the tournament.
“It’s challenging to play. this is his first game in Africa, in AFCON. I am happy with what he did, but I’m a little worried because he has an injury,” saeid Chelle.“When they scored the goal, he had a big… I don’t know the word in English, but he felt something in his thigh.”
