Niklas Releases “Cloud Runner” Inspired by Aspazija’s Poetry

Latvian singer and songwriter Niklas has released his latest pop single, “Cloud Runner,” a composition uniquely based on the poem of the same name by the renowned Latvian poetess Aspazija. The release coincides with the week of Aspazija’s birthday, honoring her literary legacy.

The Serendipitous Creation of “Cloud Runner”

The song’s creation began unexpectedly. Niklas developed a musical idea without lyrics, and while exploring Aspazija’s poetry, he discovered a remarkable fit between the poem “Cloud Runner” and his existing melody. He noted that no alterations to the poem’s structure or phrasing were necessary, suggesting a natural harmony between the two works.

“It was a time full of confusion in my life, and Aspazija accurately demonstrated my feelings of that moment in this poem,” Niklas shared. “When I read these lines, an indescribable peace came over me – as if she herself smiled from above and said that everything will be fine. I still vividly remember that night by the Riga canal when I started singing these words to my melody. At that moment, I felt that this meeting between my music and Aspazija’s poetry simply had to happen.”

A Collaborative International Effort

The arrangement, mixing, and mastering of “Cloud Runner” were handled by producer Edgars Vilcāns, marking their second collaboration following their work on Niklas’s song “A Boy.” This project took place across international boundaries, with Niklas working in Riga and Vilcāns based in Asia.

“We have known Niklas for a long time – we met while working together at events,” said Edgars Vilcāns. “Our collaboration started by chance when we met at a gas tank near my studio, and Niklas approached me to produce his song ‘A Boy’. It was a successful start to our creative journey. We worked on ‘Cloud Runner’ in a different situation because I was in Asia. The whole process took place remotely. Despite the distance, we managed to create a whole musical network of cooperation. Vocals, guitars and drums were recorded in Riga parts, and together we found the sound for this song. I really like the creative direction of Niklas, combining live instruments with the electronic sound. It gives a lot of freedom to experiment, and I hope that our collaboration will continue with new songs.”
