Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch May Get New “Event Gifts” Feature

An upcoming “Event Gifts” distribution system for Nintendo Switch Online has been uncovered by dataminer @idocode01 within recent application code updates. The discovery points to a feature capable of running multiple simultaneous events with unique video assets, thumbnails, loading animations, and custom audio cues across both current hardware and future platforms.

Datamined Code Reveals Event Gifts Mechanics

Recent updates to the Nintendo Switch Online application code contain references to a functional distribution system tentatively identified as “Event Gifts.” According to findings shared by X user @idocode01, the architecture supports running multiple distinct gift events simultaneously. Each configured event supports dedicated media assets, including unique thumbnails, video files, bespoke loading animations, and specific audio playback files for receiving items.

While software code reveals the framework and assets, Nintendo has not officially announced the initiative or confirmed its eventual rollout. Code markers suggest that reward delivery mechanisms are largely built out, pointing to a functional state that could surface in upcoming platform updates.

Precedent Set by Donkey Kong Challenge Cards

The discovery arrives following similar user-engagement initiatives deployed through Nintendo Switch Online. Earlier this year, Nintendo hosted a limited-time challenge event centered around Donkey Kong themes, requiring players to complete specific objectives to earn digital collectible cards. Participants who completed the full suite of challenges qualified to receive physical reward cards shipped directly from the company.

Platform Integration Scope

Analysis of the datamined files indicates the feature targets the ecosystem spanning both the original Nintendo Switch and successor hardware informally referenced as the Switch 2. Because the Nintendo Switch Online application interfaces across multiple generations of hardware, backend deployment of the gift system could theoretically reach players on both consoles concurrently.

Technical indicators such as completed sound clips and animation assets imply development has progressed past basic conceptual phases. However, software datamines frequently uncover abandoned features or long-term internal experiments that never reach public release, leaving the final timeline and implementation strategy entirely dependent on official corporate disclosure.
