NIU Gymnastics Heads to Illinois State for Monday Night Competition

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team is set to compete against Illinois State on Monday night. The meet will take place at Illinois State and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Central Time and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Huskies Coming Off Strong Performance

NIU recently participated in the Beauty and the Beast Meet on Friday, finishing second in a tri-meet against Southeast Missouri State and Wilberforce. Three Huskies secured first-place finishes during the event.

Individual Highlights

  • Elizabeth Poncin: Set a novel season-high on bars with a score of 9.825, earning her a career-high and her second win of the season on bars.
  • Mikayla Brown: Tied a career-high on beam with a 9.850, finishing second in the meet.
  • Dawsyn Sallee: Won on vault for the second consecutive meet, tying a career-high with a 9.850.
  • Drake White: Secured a win on floor for the second time this season.
  • Deziray Boykin & Samantha Nickle: Both set season-high marks on beam.

Illinois State’s Recent Competition

Illinois State last competed on Saturday, Feb. 14, against Southeast Missouri State, falling with a score of 194.150-192.475. The Redbirds currently rank 57th with a team average of 193.143 through seven meets this season, with a high score of 194.025 achieved on Feb. 1. Monday night’s meet marks the final home competition of the season for Illinois State.

  • Savannah Ray: Holds NQS scores of 9.745 on vault, 9.690 on bars, and 9.550 on beam.
  • Leah Davis: Has a team-high NQS of 9.790 on floor.
