No. 10 California Beach Volleyball Sweeps Battle of the Bay, Prepares for USC Classic

BERKELEY, CA – The No. 10 University of California beach volleyball team dominated the Battle of the Bay this weekend, securing 5-0 victories over both the University of San Francisco (USF) and Pacific at the Clark Kerr Sand Courts. The Golden Bears showcased their strength across all pairings, setting a positive tone as they head into the MPSF Coast To Coast Classic at USC next week.

Dominant Performances Across the Board

Cal’s No. 4 pair, seniors Mila Vugrincic and Jenna Colligan, were particularly impressive, consistently holding their opponents to 10 points or less in every set. They conceded only 30 points across four sets on Saturday. The No. 1 pairing of Emma Donley and Portia Sherman, recently honored as the AVCA/CBVB National Pair of the Week, extended their winning streak to 8-0 this season.

Redshirt freshman Giselle Lau made her Cal debut, teaming up with sophomore Elle Evers to defeat USF’s No. 5 pair 21-19, 21-11. The No. 2 pair of Gia Fisher and Ava Haughy continued their strong start to the season, achieving an 8-1 record.

The Golden Bears will continue their season next week at the MPSF Coast To Coast Classic hosted by USC. They are scheduled to face No. 4 USC, and No. 12 LSU on Friday, followed by matches against No. 17 Grand Canyon and No. 18 Washington on Saturday.
