Oklahoma MenS Tennis Defeats Arizona 4-2
NORMAN, Okla. – the Oklahoma Sooners men’s tennis team began their spring season with a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Wildcats on Friday evening at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The Sooners secured the win after a tightly contested match, with several singles battles going the distance.
The match began with doubles play. Arizona took an early lead, winning at the No. 3 position with Alejandro Arcila and Jay Friend defeating Hank Trondson and asahi Harazaki 6-3.Pepijn bastiaansen and glib Sekachov of Arizona then defeated Bruno Nhavene and Oscar Lacides 7-6(7-4) at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles match featuring Oklahoma’s newly paired Luis Alvarez and Alejandro Melero against Zoran Ludoski and Alexander rozin was unfinished, with the Sooners leading 6-6 [5-3] when the doubles point was secured by Arizona.
Oklahoma responded strongly in singles play, winning the first four completed matches. Luis Alvarez (#46) defeated Alexander Rozin 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.Orel Kimhi secured a win at No. 3, defeating Zoran Ludoski 6-4, 6-2. Johan Rodriguez dominated at No. 4, winning 6-1, 6-2 against #58 Filip Gustafsson. Asahi Harazaki (#74) continued the Sooners’ momentum with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Alejandro Arcila at No. 5.
Arizona managed to secure a singles win at No. 6, with Matthias Uwe kask defeating Hank Trondson 6-1, 6-3. The No. 1 singles match between #57 Oscar Lacides and #4 Jay Friend was left unfinished, with Lacides leading 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).
The Sooners will be back in action on Sunday, January 18th, at noon at the Headington Family Tennis Center, where they will face Abilene Christian.
