No Man’s Sky Ship Customization Lands on Nintendo Switch After Technical Hurdles
Nintendo Switch players can now fully customize their ships in No Man’s Sky, a feature previously delayed due to technical challenges. The update, known as Remnant, brings the highly anticipated ship customization – specifically Corvettes – to the platform, aligning the Switch version with features available on other consoles and PC.
Technical Challenges and Developer Efforts
The integration of ship customization into the Nintendo Switch version of No Man’s Sky proved to be a significant undertaking for Hello Games. Martin Griffiths, an engine programmer at Hello Games, explained that optimizing the game engine to accommodate the feature within the Switch’s hardware limitations – specifically memory and frame rate – was a “difficult technical challenge.”
Griffiths shared on Twitter on February 11, 2026, “No Man’s Sky Remnant now has Corvettes on Switch! It was a difficult technical challenge to optimize the engine so this could fit in memory and render on frame rate worthy. Sorry it took so long – we made it in the end! Very proud to have helped with this.” This highlights the team’s dedication to delivering a smooth gaming experience for Switch users, even on older hardware.
Player Response and Creative Potential
The Switch community has responded enthusiastically to the update. Players have expressed appreciation for Hello Games’ commitment to bringing complex features to the console. Enthusiasm is high, with players eager to explore the creative possibilities the customization options unlock.
Previously, players on other platforms have showcased impressive ship designs, ranging from recreations of iconic fictional objects like the Eye of Sauron from The Lord of the Rings to functional designs like space forklifts and even giant Nokia phones. Now, Switch players can join in this creative endeavor, designing their own unique spaceships.
No Man’s Sky and Cross-Platform Play
No Man’s Sky allows players to explore a procedurally generated universe, offering a vast and unique experience for each explorer. The game features full multiplayer, allowing players to meet, build, and fight together. The Nintendo Switch 2 edition too supports cross-play and cross-save functionality, enabling players to continue their journey across multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Mac.
