Bulgaria’s pension Payments to Be Made in Euros in 2026

On the threshold of 2026,when the single European currency “euro” is officially introduced in Bulgaria,one of the concerns of many is what will happen to pensions and whether they will be paid on schedule. In this regard, the National Insurance Institute (NII) announced that they are ready with the revaluation of pensions and supplements, and the first payment for January will begin on the 7th at post offices and it will be in euros only. As before, the payment at the post office will be made according to a predetermined schedule.

The NSI reminds that in 2025 the average basic pension paid, without supplements, reached BGN 911. In the previous year, it was BGN 835, according to the data of the National Insurance Institute. About 800,000 adults now have pensions up to the poverty threshold of BGN 638. From the beginning of next year, their number will increase, as from January 1st the poverty line rises to BGN 764.

For benefits, pensions and supplements to them, in the interest of citizens, it is planned that rounding after currency conversion will be carried out in a way that is most favorable to the recipients.
