Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, in partnership with the Sports Association Newry, Down and South Armagh (SANDSA), is now accepting nominations for the 2026 NMD Sports awards. These prestigious awards recognize the dedication, achievement, and positive impact of athletes, teams, coaches, and volunteers within the district [[1]]. The awards celebrate sporting excellence and the vital role sport and physical activity play in the community.
Celebrating Local Sporting Heroes
The NMD Sports Awards aim too honor those who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment and success in their respective sporting disciplines throughout 2025. the awards ceremony will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle, providing a platform to acknowledge the hard work and passion of local sporting figures [[2]], [[3]].
Award Categories
Nominations are open across a range of categories, providing opportunities to recognize diverse contributions to sport. The categories for the 2026 NMD Sports Awards include:
- Sports Coach of the Year 2025
- Sportsperson / Team of the Year with Disability 2025
- sports Volunteer of the Year 2025
- Junior Team of the Year 2025
- Senior Team of the Year 2025
- Lifetime Services to Sport
- Junior Sportsperson of the Year 2025
- Senior Sportsperson of the Year 2025
Who Can Nominate?
The NMD Sports Awards are open to nominations from a wide range of individuals and organizations, including athletes, sports clubs, schools, community groups, local organizations, and members of the public residing within the Newry, mourne and Down District.
How to Nominate & important Dates
to submit a nomination, completed forms must be received by monday, January 26, 2026, at 4:00 PM. Nomination forms can be obtained and submitted via the following methods:
