norovirus Outbreak at Chinese High School Infects Over 100 Students
Foshan,Guangdong Province – A recent outbreak of norovirus at Xinghui Senior High School affiliated to CCNU in Foshan,Guangdong province,has infected 103 students,health authorities confirmed on saturday. Fortunately, all affected students are currently in stable condition, according to reports from Xinhua News agency.
Norovirus is a highly contagious virus known as a common cause of acute gastroenteritis, characterized primarily by symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.The Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the province experiences a seasonal peak in norovirus infections between October and march, making this period notably vulnerable to outbreaks.
Schools and kindergartens are identified as high-risk environments for the spread of norovirus due to close proximity and frequent contact among students. Following the identification of the cluster, local health and disease control authorities immediately activated emergency response protocols.
Response teams were dispatched to the school to conduct thorough epidemiological investigations, provide expert disinfection guidance, and implement necessary administrative controls. Authorities are also working with the school to bolster health education programs, disseminating preventative information and promoting healthy habits among both students and staff.
Xinghui Senior High School has activated its contingency plan, wich includes comprehensive campus disinfection procedures and enhanced daily health monitoring. This includes regular morning and afternoon health checks, alongside diligent tracking of student absences related to illness. These measures aim to contain the outbreak and prevent further transmission within the school community.
