What a week this has been for the Lumbee people.
After decades of seeking federal recognition, the tribe finally secured that distinction a few days ago.
John Lowery is Lumbee tribal chairman and a state representative. At a news conference Friday, he called this the biggest event in the history of his people.
“It’s amazing… This is the high point. But I do challenge our people that this cannot be the highest point,” he saeid.
