Maine Black Bears Sweep Northeastern Huskies in Hockey Showdown

The University of Maine Black Bears secured a pair of victories against the Northeastern Huskies, winning 4-0 on February 27th and 3-2 on February 28th, 2026. These wins mark a strong finish to the regular season for Maine.

February 27th Match: Dominant Performance by Maine

Maine’s victory on February 27th was characterized by a strong defensive performance and capitalizing on power play opportunities. Northeastern struggled with penalties, allowing Maine to build a commanding lead.

Owen Fowler led the scoring for the Black Bears, netting two goals. The first came at 11:16 of the first period, assisted by Josh Nadeau and Sully Scholle. Fowler added his second early in the second period. Brandon Holt extended the lead to 3-0 midway through the second, with assists from Miguel Marques and Josh Nadeau. Josh Nadeau then scored at 32:38, assisted by Marques and Mathis Rousseau, to complete the 4-0 shutout.

Northeastern failed to convert on their power play opportunities, and Maine effectively killed off all penalties, even scoring a shorthanded goal.

February 28th Match: Close Contest with a Maine Victory

The February 28th game was a closer affair, with Northeastern taking an early lead. Joe Connor scored the first goal of the game nine minutes in, assisted by Tyler Fukakusa and Giacomo Martino. However, Maine responded strongly in the second period.

Frank Djurasevic tied the game for Maine at 1:30 of the second period. He then scored again less than three minutes later to offer the Black Bears the lead. Sully Scholle added another goal for Maine at 14:00 of the second period.

Giacomo Martino scored for Northeastern late in the third period, but Maine held on to win 3-2. Despite taking 14 more shots, Northeastern couldn’t overcome the deficit.

Northeastern will conclude its regular season campaign against the Boston College Eagles on March 7th at 7 p.m. In Chestnut Hill.
