Towards the end of each year, the tax lists are published. In 2025, the somewhat controversial tradition ended up on the date of 3 December, which is the same day that Prince Sverre Magnus turns 20.
As there is an exemption from tax liability for royals within the year they turn 20, and these figures are from last year, the prince does not have to share these figures this year. The royal couple, the crown prince couple and Ingrid Alexandra do not have to pay tax, and thus also do not have to have their income and wealth disclosed.
With that said,Prince Sverre Magnus is not the only royal who in future has to live with being visible in tax lists, because there we also have princesses.
Princess Astrid (93), the sister of King Harald, has had a fairly stable income and wealth in recent years, but this year the figures show a drop in income: Net income of NOK 1.46 million, and a fortune of just over NOK 37 million.
NB: The figures in the tax lists can be misleading for various reasons.
And the money does not come from apanage, as both the titles and the apanage disappeared when Princess Astrid married Johan Martin Ferner in 1961. The marriage created a great public debate as he was a divorced man.
Princess Astrid, Mrs Ferner has an notable CV. she graduated in arts in 1950 and then studied social economy and political history at Oxford for two years. She has also studied at Märthaskolen and Lolly Ræstad’s home economics school.
The princess has also represented the royal house on a number of crucial occasions – which she also continues to do, even in her advanced age. She is also chairman of the Crown Princess Märtha’s Memorial Fund, and follows up on her 12 patronages.
Princess Astrid is a taxable member of the royal family, but receives a so-called “honorary pension”.
several of her companies have had trouble recently. TV 2 has revealed that the company H360 Norway AS is being liquidated. The company Hest360 AS,which, like H360 norway AS,engages in equestrian sports, has lost more than half of its share capital.
The company Heartsmart AS is, among other things, behind the podcast of Märtha Louise, Lilli Bendriss and Mari Manzetti. This company has created headlines dealing with both debt collection claims and a deficit in the annual result.
The company Hést AS, which Märtha louise has been a part of for several years, has seen growth in revenue from 2020 to 2024.2024 was nevertheless the frist year in a long time were there was a dramatic drop in profitability.
Royal Portrayal: A Shift in Roles
In 1954, Princess Astrid consistently represented the royal family, both in large and small capacities. This contrasts with the path taken by Princess Märtha Louise, who has navigated her professional life differently, eliciting both criticism and support from the public. According to royal house expert Ole-Jørgen Schulsrud-Hansen,Princess Märtha Louise no longer undertakes any official representational duties.
