Mustafa Marghadi Leaves NOS Correspondent Post After Years Abroad
NOS foreign correspondent Mustafa Marghadi has concluded his tenure covering international news for the Dutch public broadcaster, returning to the Netherlands after years reporting from Italy and Southeast Asia, NOS reported. Marghadi stepped down from his overseas post and discussed his career trajectory in an episode of the NOS podcast The Day, hosted by Elisabeth Steinz.
Temporary Return to Lutjewinkel and Rural Upbringing
Marghadi is currently back in the Netherlands and residing temporarily in his parents’ home in Lutjewinkel to care for his family. Speaking from the Noord-Holland countryside, he reflected on a youth spent slootjespringen—jumping across drainage ditches—and playing hide-and-seek in hay barns. He also described his early introduction to print media, noting that a newspaper only entered his family home when he took on a delivery route.
Shifting Perspectives Between Italy and Indonesia
Marghadi began his foreign assignment in Italy, a country where he had never lived before and where he faced professional and personal challenges.

As a migrant child, I have lived as a minority for 35 years,
Marghadi explained in the podcast, detailing the constant pressure to disprove prevailing stereotypes. While Italy reinforced his sense of being an outsider, Indonesia offered a different reception. In Italy, I also felt that I was seen as ‘different,’ but in Indonesia they said: you are one of us.
