The results of the Syuriyah Consultation Meeting of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board with Mustasyar PBNU decided that the 35th Congress must be held as soon as possible by Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar and General Chairperson of PBNU KH Yahya cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya. The meeting took place at the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, Kediri, East Java, on Saturday (13/5/2023).

“The Syuriyah and Mustasyar have a common view that the 35th NU Congress must be held instantly,” said Deputy Secretary General of PBNU,H.imam Hanafi, in a written statement.

He explained that the urgency of the congress was to fulfill the mandate of the organization’s constitution and to ensure the continuity of NU’s leadership. The congress is also important to discuss and determine the direction of NU’s policies in the future.

According to Imam Hanafi, Rais aam and General Chairperson of PBNU will immediately prepare the implementation of the 35th NU Congress. The form and time of the congress will be resolute later.

“Rais Aam and gus Yahya will immediately prepare the implementation of the 35th NU Congress,” he said.

The Syuriyah Consultation Meeting was attended by members of the PBNU Syuriyah Council, Mustasyar PBNU, and a number of PBNU officials. The meeting was held to discuss various issues related to the organization, including the implementation of the 35th NU Congress.

The 35th NU Congress was originally scheduled to be held in Solo, Central Java, in December 2023. Though, due to a number of reasons, the congress was postponed. The postponement of the congress has raised concerns among NU members, who hope that the organization’s leadership can be immediately determined.

A Syuriyah Consultation Meeting has been scheduled by Kiai Miftach,formalized through letter number 4829/PB.02/AI01.02/99/12/2025, published on Wednesday, december 24, 2025. Gus yahya will attend the meeting following an official invitation signed by KH M.Anwar Manshur, Head of the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, under number 064/A/AZM/P2L/XII/2025.

Gus Yahya visibly restrained his emotion as he kissed the hands and cheeks of Mustasyar PBNU KH Nurul Huda Djazuli. The two then embraced for approximately five seconds. Gus Yahya afterward greeted Rais Syuriyah PBNU and the Caretaker of the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, KH Abdullah Kafabih Mahrus.
