Nuki Keypad 2 NFC: Keyless Entry Gets Smarter with Contactless Access

Nuki has expanded its smart lock ecosystem with the launch of the Keypad 2 NFC, bringing the convenience of contactless access to homes and businesses across Europe, including Spain. The new keypad builds upon Nuki’s existing smart lock technology, offering users a more secure and versatile way to unlock their doors using NFC-enabled smartphones, smartwatches, fingerprints, or traditional access codes.

What is the Nuki Keypad 2 NFC?

The Keypad 2 NFC is designed to complement Nuki’s Matter-compatible Smart Locks, providing a keyless entry solution that prioritizes both security and ease of use. It introduces NFC connectivity, allowing users to unlock their doors simply by bringing their smartphone or smartwatch close to the keypad – eliminating the need for physical keys or accessing an app. This functionality leverages the Aliro standard, developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, for secure and intelligent access control. Multiple Access Methods

The Keypad 2 NFC doesn’t limit users to a single access method. It supports five different ways to unlock a door:

  • Apple Home Key: Integration with Apple Wallet for seamless unlocking.
  • Samsung Digital Home Key: Compatibility with Samsung’s digital key system.
  • Tap to Unlock: Using the Nuki app for quick, contactless unlocking.
  • Fingerprint Access: Storing up to 20 unique fingerprints for quick, phone-free access.
  • Access Codes: Creating up to 200 time-limited access codes via the Nuki app.

This flexibility makes the Keypad 2 NFC suitable for a wide range of users, from homeowners to tiny businesses and vacation rental properties.

How ‘Tap to Unlock’ Works

Using the ‘Tap to Unlock’ feature is straightforward: simply bring a compatible smartphone near the Keypad 2 NFC to initiate a secure data exchange and unlock the door. Security and Reliability

Nuki prioritizes security with end-to-end encryption, employing standards comparable to those used in mobile payment systems. All access information is stored locally on the device, with optional cloud usage, minimizing the risk of sensitive data exposure. COPE

Durability and Installation

The Keypad 2 NFC is IP54 certified, protecting it against dust and splashes. It’s designed for outdoor installation and can be mounted using adhesive strips or screws. Nuki states the keypad has a battery life of approximately 12 months, depending on usage. Revista OnOff
