Telecommunication Engineer Nuria Oliver to Receive Honorary Doctorate in Linares
Telecommunication engineer and artificial intelligence expert Nuria Oliver will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Jaén on October 29. The university’s governing body scheduled the ceremony for 11:30 a.m. at the Cervantes Theatre in Linares.
The academic event marks the first time Linares will host an honorary doctorate investiture for the University of Jaén. University Rector Nicolás Ruiz will preside over the ceremony. Sebastian Garcia Galan, a professor of telematics engineering, will serve as the godfather and deliver the traditional speech known as the laudatio. A procession of doctors will begin at the City Hall of Linares and travel through several streets in the city before reaching the theater.
The University of Jaén Claustro approved the honorary degree in July following a proposal from the telecommunication department. The university cited Oliver’s scientific, academic, and professional achievements as the basis for the distinction. The institution recognized her international research career and her contributions to artificial intelligence, human-machine interaction, data science, and technology geared toward the common good.
