NYCFC Secures 3-1 Victory Over Colorado Rapids Behind Nicolás Fernández’s Brace
New York City FC continued their strong start to the 2026 Major League Soccer season with a decisive 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids at Yankee Stadium on Saturday night. A dominant performance from forward Nicolás Fernández, who scored two first-half goals, propelled NYCFC to their third victory in four games.
Fernández Leads the Charge
NYCFC (3-0-1, 10 points) took the lead in the 22nd minute with an unassisted goal from Fernández. He doubled the advantage just before halftime, scoring on a free kick in the 45th minute – NYCFC’s first goal from a free kick since Hannes Wolf’s strike against the Philadelphia Union in May 2024 . This brought Fernández’s season goal tally to four, a significant improvement from his three goals in 11 appearances during his debut season last year .
Rapids Respond, But NYCFC Holds Firm
Colorado (2-2-0, 6 points) managed to pull one back in the fourth minute of stoppage time before halftime, with Darren Yapi scoring off an assist from Rafael Navarro . Though, NYCFC extended their lead in the 86th minute when Talles Magno found the net with an assist from veteran Maxi Moralez . Magno has now scored 15 goals in 86 appearances for the club, while Moralez has 88 assists in 221 appearances .
