Oasis State Park to Host Annual Fishing Derby

Oasis State Park in Roosevelt County, Modern Mexico, will host its annual fishing derby on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 9 a.m. To 3 p.m. The event, a collaboration between the park’s Friends Group and the New Mexico Department of Wildlife, aims to provide a high-quality fishing experience for families and anglers of all ages.

Event Details

The park pond has been stocked with 800 rainbow trout, each measuring approximately 10 inches. According to Toby Velasquez, Director of New Mexico State Parks, “For many families, this could be the moment a child catches their very first fish. Experiences like that stay with people for a lifetime.”

Registration for the fishing derby is $5 per angler. A valid New Mexico fishing license is required for participants aged 12 and older. Park entry is free for vehicles with New Mexico license plates; out-of-state visitors will be charged a $10 entry fee.
