Off-Duty Saddle Brook Police Captain Struck by Stolen Infiniti G37
An off-duty Saddle Brook police captain is recovering after being struck by a stolen gray 2011 Infiniti G37 while trying to stop a driveway theft late Saturday night, October 17, NBC New York reported. The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. outside the officer’s father’s home on the residential street where the captain lives directly across the way.
Police Chief John A. Zotollo Jr. stated that the captain spotted two individuals equipped with flashlights moving around his father’s driveway. The officer immediately dialed 9-1-1 to report the active car break-in.
As the suspects managed to start the vehicle and reverse out of the driveway, the captain ran from his residence to intervene. The reversing Infiniti struck the officer, knocking him directly to the ground before the thieves fled the scene in the stolen car.
The captain sustained an injury to his right leg during the confrontation. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital as a precaution, and medical staff discharged him a short time later that evening.
Ongoing Search for Driveway Thieves in Saddle Brook
Investigators have not yet released any official descriptions of the two suspects involved in the late-night vehicle theft. Authorities confirmed that the perpetrators remained at large Sunday afternoon as police agencies continued tracking leads. The weekend incident follows another recent vehicle-related emergency in the township. Last month, a different Saddle Brook police officer was struck and critically injured by a hit-and-run driver while working along Route 80. Investigators are looking into the theft of the gray 2011 Infiniti G37.
