Nurse Shot by Federal Agents in Minneapolis Previously Injured by ICE, Raising Concerns of Aggressive Tactics

Minneapolis, MNAlex Pretti, the 37-year-old nurse fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday, had a prior encounter with immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents just a week earlier, resulting in a fractured rib. This previously unreported incident, as detailed in a CNN report, is fueling concerns about the escalating tactics employed by federal forces against protesters and observers.

The earlier confrontation occurred when Pretti reportedly intervened after witnessing ICE agents pursuing a family on foot. According to a source who spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity, Pretti stopped his vehicle, began shouting and using a whistle to draw attention to the situation. Five agents then forcibly detained him, with one agent allegedly applying pressure to his back, causing a rib fracture. He was released at the scene, but later sought medical treatment consistent with a fractured rib. “He thought he was going to die that day,” the source stated.

This incident coincides with a memo circulated earlier this month to officers temporarily assigned to Minneapolis. The memo instructed them to comprehensively document “all images, license plates, identification documents and general data on hotels, agitators, protesters, etc.” Critics argue this directive demonstrates an overly aggressive approach and a potential overreach of authority, notably concerning the collection of information on activities protected under the First Amendment.

The shooting of Alex Pretti and the preceding injury raise serious questions about the conduct of federal agents in Minneapolis and the potential for escalating violence against individuals observing or participating in demonstrations. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding both incidents.
