Ogre Karate Cup 2026 Showcases Latvian Karate Talent

The 24th annual Ogre Karate Cup, an open international karate championship, took place on March 7, 2026, at the Ogre Sports Center hall in Latvia. The tournament, organized by the Ogre club “bernukarate.lv” in cooperation with the Latvian Karate Federation, drew participation from 15 karate clubs representing Latvia and Lithuania, with athletes ranging in age from 5 to 20 years.

The Ogre Karate Cup has been a staple in the Latvian karate scene for 24 years, a testament to the dedication of “bernukarate.lv” in developing both martial arts and sport karate within the Ogre region. Ogre County Council Chairman Andris Krauja, a guest of honor at the opening ceremony, acknowledged this longevity and emphasized the successful growth of karate in the area, wishing the athletes success.

Competition and Achievements

Athletes from the Ogre club “bernukarate.lv” achieved notable success, earning numerous medals across various disciplines. Award-winning athletes included Bogdans Sobolevs, Ralfs Prančans, Haralds Ermuiža, Kristine Reizniece, Ksenia Gorišniak, Davids Ivanovs, Ernests Savickis, Kārlis Livs, Oliver Neilands, Patriks Liebmanis, Kārlis Novads, and Victoria Andžāne.

The Rēzekne club “SAKURA” emerged as the overall champion, securing 11 first-place finishes.

Community Support and Accessibility

The tournament was open to the public, with free entry for spectators. The Ogre club “bernukarate.lv” has been fostering karate development in Ogre for 36 years and welcomes students of all ages and experience levels, starting from age four. The club emphasizes that it’s never too late to commence training, with opportunities for adults to improve fitness and women to learn self-defense.

The event received support from the Ogre region municipality, as well as financial backing from SIA “SELDING” and SIA “LS STEEL”.
