Elizabeth and Gary Siders Jr. Plead Not Newly Indicted Sexual Conduct Charges in Vinton County
Elizabeth Siders, 34, pleaded not guilty in Vinton County Common Pleas Court to felony charges alleging she and her husband sexually abused a minor in their care between January and September 2022, according to court records reviewed by the Daily Mail. Clad in baggy orange prison garb and appearing downcast, Siders clutched her stomach and used a chair for balance before Judge Laina Fetherolf. Her attorney, Tommy Stolley, declined to comment when asked by reporters if his client was pregnant. Siders remains incarcerated behind bars on a raised bond of $500,000 after Judge Fetherolf added $250,000 following the hearing, matching an identical bond increase handed down to her husband last month.
The case represents a severe escalation in an ongoing investigation that initially drew law enforcement to a decrepit property on Ohmer Street in Hamden, Ohio, earlier this year. According to Vinton County Prosecutor William Archer, the investigation began as an inquiry into family child sex abuse, which prompted authorities to seek the DNA of Gary Siders Jr. through search warrants for genetic testing. When law enforcement officers served those warrants, they discovered 16 children living inside a cramped 12-by-12 room. Prosecutor Archer stated that the alleged child sex abuse involved intrafamily relations, noting that the victim is more than a decade younger than the defendants and is alleged to be their niece or nephew according to indictments cited by the Daily Mail.
Arraignments and Additional Charges for the Siders Family
Gary Siders Jr., 36, remains incarcerated and pleaded not guilty to his share of the sex abuse charges at an earlier arraignment, where his bond was increased by $250,000 to a total of $550,000. Both Elizabeth and Gary Jr. face two counts of sexual battery and two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. In addition to these sex offense indictments, both defendants previously entered not guilty pleas alongside family members to 19 separate counts of child endangerment concerning their own children.
The broader prosecution has swept up multiple generations of the household. Gary Siders Sr., 73, was recently ruled incompetent and unlikely to be restored to competency by a judge, with his defense attorney anticipating that charges against him will be dropped. Attorneys for Gary Jr. and his mother, Christina Siders, 68, have also requested competency evaluations, according to court details reported by the Daily Mail. Elizabeth Siders is similarly slated to undergo a competency evaluation to determine whether she can assist in her own defense as the legal proceedings move forward.
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson emphasized that the latest indictments do not signify the end of the multi-agency inquiry. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Special Victims Unit and the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office continue to examine the case. Prosecutor Archer credited the initial breakthrough in the investigation to alert local workers, specifically thanking diligent Dollar General clerks who contacted authorities with concerns regarding children they observed in public.
