Eastern Oklahoma VA Veterans Recognized at National Creative Arts Competition
Muskogee, Oklahoma – Two Veterans from the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System have earned national recognition for their artistic talent at the 2025 National Veterans Creative Arts Competition. The awards highlight the therapeutic power of art and the creative achievements of Veterans across the country.
National Competition and Local Participation
The 2025 National Veterans Creative Arts Competition received over 7,000 entries from more than 4,500 Veterans representing 124 VA facilities nationwide. The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System held its local competition in August 2025, with first, second, and third-place winners advancing to the national level.
Award-Winning Veterans
Nichole Montgomery received first place in the mixed media category, and Michelle Hendrickson placed third for her beadwork. Montgomery’s achievement qualifies her to represent the Eastern Oklahoma VA at the 2026 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival in Columbia, South Carolina, in June 2026.
Opportunities for Veteran Artists
Veterans interested in participating in the National Veterans Creative Arts Competition can submit their function directly through the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival. Artwork must be completed after October 1, 2025, and local submissions are accepted through July 31, 2026.
