OnePay and Upgrade Launch Lending Partnership
Walmart-backed fintech OnePay launched a new personal loan program on July 20, integrating credit platform Upgrade’s infrastructure directly into its mobile application. The move allows eligible banking customers to access financing ranging from $1,000 to $50,000, with funds potentially available as early as the same day.
Streamlining Access to Credit
The collaboration powers Upgrade’s technology within the OnePay app, aiming to centralize the borrowing experience for existing users. While approval and loan amounts hinge on individual eligibility, the companies are positioning the service as a transparent, simplified alternative to traditional lending.
“It’s never been more important to give consumers access to financing that’s simple, transparent, and meets them where they already are,” said Omer Ismail, CEO of OnePay.
Shifting Consumer Credit Habits
The program arrives as household reliance on credit evolves. Research from PYMNTS Intelligence suggests that credit is increasingly used to manage cash flow—bridging the gap between paychecks and monthly bills—rather than for discretionary purchases.
Younger demographics are leading this change. Gen Z and millennial users are showing a clear preference for credit card installment plans over buy now, pay later services, opting for the former at a rate of approximately 2 to 1. This shift underscores a broader attempt by consumers to smooth out financial volatility amid persistent living costs.
Core Features of the New Offering
For OnePay banking customers, the integration offers two primary benefits: a wide borrowing capacity and rapid funding. Applicants can request loans between $1,000 and $50,000, and those who meet eligibility requirements may receive their funds on the same day they accept an offer.
A Strategic Move Toward Centralized Finance
By embedding these services into existing digital ecosystems, OnePay is attempting to meet the needs of borrowers who prioritize stability and ease of access.
