Oris Expands Eco-Focused Lineup with Burgundy Pointer Date
Oris has deepened its sustainability-driven catalog with a fresh 40mm Big Crown Pointer Date. Priced at CHF 2,250, the release pairs a rich burgundy face with a responsibly sourced deer hide strap.
This special edition extends the Swiss watchmaker’s ongoing partnership with Cervo Volante. Together, the brands target ecological challenges in alpine forests by repurposing wild game leather.
Case Dimensions and Dial Aesthetics
The newest Big Crown iteration houses its mechanics in a 40mm stainless steel case measuring 12.2mm thick, with a lug-to-lug span of 48.2mm. Classic design codes return: a fluted bezel, an oversized screw-down crown, and a double-domed sapphire crystal.
Water-resistance sits at 50 meters. A brushed finish across the top of the lugs contrasts cleanly against the polished bezel framing the dial.
That dial takes its warm burgundy hue from the autumn foliage surrounding the Oris factory in Hölstein. Readability leads the design. Cathedral-shaped hands, stylized Arabic numerals, and a peripheral date track carry treatments of Super-LumiNova. A dedicated calendar hand uses an inverted red arrow pointer to indicate the date.
Ecological Sourcing Through Cervo Volante
A dark brown Cervo Volante deer skin strap secures the watch to the wrist via a quick-change system.
Switzerland culls roughly 15,000 wild red deer annually. This intervention prevents overpopulation from damaging alpine forest ecosystems in the absence of natural predators. Rather than letting the hides go to waste, Cervo Volante converts them into premium leather products processed at one of Switzerland’s last surviving vegetable tanneries, preserving the natural imperfections of the hide.
Calibre 754 Mechanics and Market Availability
Inside ticks the Oris 754 calibre. This automatic movement relies on the Sellita SW 200-1 architecture paired with an integrated pointer date module.
