Indonesia’s Badminton Journey at Orleans Masters 2026 Faces Setbacks

Orleans, France – Indonesia’s campaign at the Orleans Masters 2026 experienced mixed fortunes as the women’s doubles pair of Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum, along with the men’s doubles duo of Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana, faced defeat in the semifinal round on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Women’s Doubles: Rachel/Febi Fall to Japanese Duo

Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum were unable to secure a spot in the final, losing to Japan’s Sumire Nakade and Miyu Takahashi in straight sets with a score of 10-21, 20-22 at the Palais des Sports in Orleans . The Indonesian pair struggled with the unfamiliar playing style of their opponents.

“We played quite tensely today. They’re a new pair, so they had a new pattern and style of play that left us a bit confused,” Rachel stated after the match . She emphasized the need for improved preparation and defense, particularly against fast shuttlecocks.

Febi echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the variety in the Japanese pair’s game. “They have a lot of variety in their game. They really closed down the front and kept looking for position. This made us hesitant to return the ball,” she explained . She similarly highlighted a missed opportunity in the second game, where a lead was lost.

Men’s Doubles: Leo/Bagas Suffer Defeat

The men’s doubles team of Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana also experienced defeat in their semifinal match, losing to the Chinese pair of Hu Ke Yuan and Lin Xiang Yi 19-21, 10-21 .

Leo attributed the loss to unforced errors and the opponent’s consistency. “We felt like we were evenly matched today, but they were very secure, while we made a lot of unforced errors,” he said .

Bagas lamented missed opportunities in the first game. “We actually had a chance in the first game. After falling behind, we could have tied the score at 19-19, but I rushed the game and ended up making three unforced errors,” he noted .

Remaining Indonesian Hopes

With the defeat of Rachel/Febi, Indonesia’s hopes in the women’s doubles category were dashed. The focus now shifts to Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana, who were still competing in the men’s doubles semifinal at the time of reporting .
