Indonesian Minister of Religion Reports Private Jet Gift to Anti-Corruption Agency

Jakarta – Indonesian Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar reported receiving a private jet from politician Oesman Sapta Odang (OSO) to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Monday, February 23, 2026. The minister stated the jet was used for travel to Takalar, South Sulawesi, for the inauguration of the Balai Sarkiah building on February 15, 2026.

Reason for Reporting

Nasaruddin Umar proactively reported the apply of the private jet as a potential act of gratuity, seeking guidance from the KPK on the matter. He explained that limited commercial flight options late at night necessitated the use of OSO’s jet to ensure his return to Jakarta for preparations for an isbat (determination) session. Kompas.com reported the minister’s explanation focused on the logistical challenges of returning to Jakarta via commercial flights.

OSO’s Response

Oesman Sapta Odang downplayed the significance of providing the jet, stating there was “nothing wrong” with offering the transportation as Nasaruddin Umar was attending the inauguration of a mosque built by the OSO Foundation. He characterized the minister’s attendance as a religious matter, simply reading prayers at the event, and questioned the notion of it being a gratuity. According to Kompas.com, OSO asked, “What’s the gratification? He-he-he. Isn’t it okay for fellow Muslims to be with Muslims?”

KPK’s Investigation

The KPK confirmed receipt of the report and stated it will analyze the details to determine if further investigation is required. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo indicated the possibility of summoning Oesman Sapta Odang for questioning regarding the provision of the jet. okjakarta.com reported that the KPK views the minister’s proactive reporting as a positive example for other public officials.

Minister’s Intent

Nasaruddin Umar emphasized his intention to set a positive example for officials within the Ministry of Religion and throughout the government by proactively reporting the potential gratuity. He hopes this action will encourage others to report similar situations, promoting transparency and accountability. Liputan6.com noted the minister’s desire to demonstrate good faith and ethical conduct.
