Oswego State Wrestlers Compete at NCAA Division III Regional Championships
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Oswego State Lakers wrestling team competed at the NCAA Division III Regional #2 Championships hosted by Ithaca College on Friday, February 27, 2026. Several Lakers showcased strong performances, with Jayden Kiell and Avery Canzano leading the way.
How it Happened
Jayden Kiell, wrestling at 174 pounds, achieved a 3-1 record, earning 7.5 team points. He began the day with a 12-4 major decision victory over Anthony Salvini of Penn State Behrend, followed by a 14-9 decision against Dennis Slovick from Pitt-Bradford, securing his place in the quarterfinals. After a loss, Kiell rebounded with a 16-4 major decision over Souleymane Diarra of Wilkes, earning a spot on the podium.
At 184 pounds, Avery Canzano also posted a 3-1 record, accumulating 10.5 team points for the Lakers. Canzano started with a dominant 17-6 major decision over Gavin Gomes of Pennsylvania College of Technology and then secured a pin against William Chrysler of New Jersey City University in 3:47. Following a quarterfinal setback, Canzano responded with a fall in 1:21 over Koran Hinton of Kean, finishing strong.
Ben Burkhardt contributed 6.0 team points at 133 pounds with a pair of early wins. He advanced due to a medical forfeit from Jackson Rush (RIT) and followed with a first-period fall (2:04) against Kolton Brown of Elmira.
Steven Ventricelli demonstrated resilience at 157 pounds, winning an 8-5 sudden victory over Josh Warland of RIT to advance to the quarterfinals.
Juan Roque (125) and Michael Santore (141) each secured consolation-round victories. Roque earned an 18-7 major decision over Billy Colloca of Oneonta State, while Santore advanced via medical forfeit against Jaden Friel of Brockport.

The Lakers will continue competition on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Ithaca College for the second day of the NCAA Regionals.
