Shooting in Papakura: Man Injured, Police Investigating

A man has been injured in a shooting in the Auckland suburb of Papakura. Police responded to reports of gunshots on Clevedon Road around 11:20 a.m. On Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Details of the Incident

According to a police spokesperson, officers on patrol in the Clevedon Road area heard what they believed to be gunshots. Shortly after, they discovered a man with a gunshot injury. St John Ambulance responded to the scene at 11:24 a.m., dispatching two ambulances, a rapid response unit and a manager.

A St John spokesperson stated that the patient was assessed and treated before being transported to Middlemore Hospital in moderate condition.

Police Investigation

Police, along with the armed offenders squad, conducted inquiries at an address on Grove Road. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made.

“We are following strong lines of enquiry in relation to the people allegedly involved in this incident. Initial indications are that the victim and the offenders are known to each other and there is no risk to the wider community,” police said in a statement.

Cordons that were in place around Grove Road have since been lifted. Residents of Clevedon Road and Grove Road can expect a continued police presence as the investigation continues.

The police Eagle helicopter was observed circling the area this morning.

Intersection Improvements Underway

The incident occurred near the intersection of Papakura-Clevedon Road and Clevedon Road, which is currently undergoing safety improvements as part of Auckland Transport’s High-Risk Intersection Programme Auckland Transport. Changes to the intersection, planned for completion after a proposal finalized in August 2025, include the removal of cycle ramps and advanced stop boxes, increased setbacks for vehicle limit lines, and additional broken yellow lines.

The area surrounding Papakura-Clevedon Road has seen recent development, including a 91-lot subdivision at the intersection of two main arterial roads CKL NZ. This development addressed challenges related to restricted access and potential flooding.
