Quebec voters are heading to the polls on October 5, 2026, following two majority mandates of the Coalition avenir Québec, according to reporting by Radio-Canada. As the province enters its pre-electoral phase, the Parti québécois (PQ) announced two high-profile candidates on Saturday to contest seats currently held by the governing party.

Charles Page Enters Drummond–Bois-Francs for the Parti québécois

Alpinist and adventurer Charles Page will run as the Parti québécois candidate in the riding of Drummond–Bois-Francs, according to an announcement published by the party on Saturday afternoon. Page, a 39-year-old native of the region, stated in a video release that his next challenge is climbing the parliamentary hill to represent his region at the National Assembly and advance the project of Quebec independence.

According to the party’s announcement, Page is the first Quebecer and Canadian to conquer the five highest peaks in the globe: Everest, K2, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu. He has also raised more than $200,000 for the Fondation Enfant Soleil through his mountaineering expeditions.

While the riding has been represented by the Coalition avenir Québec since its creation in 2012, polling data suggests the Parti québécois could capture the seat on October 5. Sébastien Schneeberger, the incumbent member of the National Assembly, is seeking a fifth mandate.

According to a statement published by St-Pierre Plamondon on Facebook, Oyono has dedicated his career to the economy and small-and-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), supporting innovation and wealth creation. The party leader noted that Oyono’s concrete experience with entrepreneurs and understanding of economic realities will support the proposed regulatory and tax relief initiatives for SMEs.

Oyono holds a doctorate in economic and regional development from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and served as the party’s president from 2019 to 2021. Commenting on his candidacy on LinkedIn, Oyono stated that public service remains deeply anchored in him and that he will continue that commitment through this electoral run.

Like Drummond–Bois-Francs, Les Plaines has been held by the Coalition avenir Québec since the riding was established in 2018. However, the Qc125 polling aggregator places the Parti québécois ahead for the upcoming campaign, and incumbent MNA Lucie Lecours is not seeking re-election.
