The discussions followed a diplomatic exchange earlier in the week in which the Greek government reaffirmed its support for the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
The diplomatic outreach took place on Monday, 12 October 2026, when Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis spoke by telephone with Patriarch Theophilos III. Athens’ backing for the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem and its safeguarding of Christian communities throughout the Middle East was restated by Gerapetritis. The conversation formed part of regular consultations following the Patriarch’s official visit to Athens in June, where Greek officials pledged continued support for the Patriarchate and the preservation of the Status Quo governing Jerusalem’s holy sites.

Educators From Northern Israel Address Classroom Challenges
On Thursday, 15 October 2026, Patriarch Theophilos III received a group of fifty educators representing all religious denominations from northern Israel. Headed by His Eminence Metropolitan Makarios of Acre–Ptolemais, the delegation was additionally accompanied by Fr George Mansour and Fr Theodosios Machoulis, Parish Priest of Kafr Yasif.
The educators presented an account of their educational work and the challenges they faced in carrying it out. Patriarch Theophilos III praised their dedication to the education and moral formation of the younger generation. In his remarks, he noted that teaching goes beyond imparting facts, acting instead as a method for shaping the individual, encouraging the search for truth, and cultivating the freedom achieved through understanding.

“Technological advancement and the increasing availability of information cannot, in themselves, replace the personal relationship between teacher and pupil, the example set by the educator, or the cultivation of discernment and character,” Patriarch Theophilos III observed during the gathering.
Drawing on the Greek philosophical tradition and the teaching of the Holy Scriptures, the Patriarch emphasized the enduring value of the written and spoken word in preserving truth and transmitting the heritage of previous generations. He concluded the meeting by expressing his paternal gratitude and prayers for the educators.
Visiting Clergy Receive Patriarchal Blessings
Subsequent to the departure of the educators, Patriarch Theophilos III granted an audience to Fr Gregory and Fr Elias—who made the trip from the Church of Greece’s Holy Metropolis of Kassandreia—and bestowed upon them his patriarchal and paternal blessings.
