Patriots Secure Romeo Doubs in Four-Year, $80 Million Deal

The New England Patriots have agreed to a four-year deal worth up to $80 million with wide receiver Romeo Doubs, according to sources at ESPN . This move comes as the Patriots prepare to release Stefon Diggs after one season.

Doubs as Diggs’ Replacement

Doubs is expected to fill the void left by Diggs, the team’s top receiving target from the 2025 season. ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes suggested the Patriots could utilize Doubs in a similar fashion to how they used Diggs, noting Doubs is a polished route runner with red zone potential and a good intermediate option for quarterback Drake Maye .

Doubs’ Performance and Potential

Last season with the Green Bay Packers, Doubs led the team with 55 catches for a career-high 724 yards and six touchdowns . His standout performance came in the wild-card playoff loss to the Chicago Bears, where he recorded eight catches for 124 yards and a touchdown. Throughout his four seasons, Doubs has consistently produced, with a career total of 202 catches for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns .

Patriots’ Offensive Outlook

The Patriots were previously considering a trade for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, but the signing of Doubs doesn’t necessarily eliminate that possibility. The team still has options to explore further trades or address receiver needs in the 2026 NFL Draft. Currently, the Patriots’ receiving corps too includes Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte, DeMario “Pop” Douglas, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism III .

Deal Details

Romeo Doubs also considered an offer from the Washington Commanders before deciding to join the Patriots . The deal is valued at $70 million according to , but ESPN reports it could reach up to $80 million.
